About Us

Senshi Academy is the joint venture of founders Phil Grapsas and Ivo Dos Santos. Phil is a Brasilian Jiu Jitsu Black Belt under Pedro Sauer. Ivo is a 3rd Dan Black Belt in Judo who has won countless National and International Titles which culminated in him representing Australia at the London 2012 Olympic Games.

Having known each other for many years through the grappling circuit, Phil and Ivo had spent countless hours sharing knowledge, stories, tips, etc. When the opportunity to work together came about they knew it could be something special.

They wanted to open an academy where people from all walks of life could come in and learn martial arts in a safe, ethical, friendly and productive environment.

The academy is home to 4 year old children, 74 year old pensioners and Olympic level athletes all working together.

The name ‘Senshi’ is Japanese for ‘Warrior’. This name was chosen because at Senshi Academy we aim to discover the Warrior within everyone. All people are unique and have unique battles in their life on and off the mat. The culture fostered in this academy teaches students that there is no battle they cannot overcome, we all have a Warrior within us.
